Background: Morey is sometimes ignored between its two famous neighbours, Chambolle Musigny and Gevrey Chambertin, but its wines are of equal class, combining elegance and structure. Morey St Denis, being that little bit less famous, can often provide excellent value. From between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle Musigny in the Côte de Nuits, it very rare to find a Morey-Saint-Denis for under £30 a bottle, especially from a vintage of 2009's quality. This is very good value for an excellent red burgundy that will last for at least another 5-7 years.
Tasting notes: Red berry fruit with quite delicate notes of strawberries and raspberries. On the palete well balanced with lovely midpalete fruit – good focus and length. Charming!
Tasting notes: Beautiful bright mid purple, bursting with energy on the nose. This is very typical Chambolle but with excellent tension, filling the middle of the palate then stretching out behind. Peonies, ripe cherries, really lovely.
