Santa Alicia Gran Reserva Carmenere
Country/Region of Origin: Chile

Region: Chile, Maipo

Grape variety: Carmenere

Background: The Chileans have now claimed the ancient French Carmenere as their own, and this example is staggeringly good! A perfect example of the wonders that can be worked with this magical grape.

Santa Alicia have been producing wines in the heart of Maipo Valley since 1954. With grapes from three select communes, a state-of-the-art winery, and judicious use of the finest American and French oak barrels, we believe the wines represent the highest price/quality ratio in Chile. In 2007, they were named Chilean Wine Producer of the Year for "best overall results from a Chilean winery" in the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition in London. Santa Alicia possesses a very talented team of winemakers. Leading the team, is David González, with more than 30 years of experience. David contributes, together with his philosophy of perfection, extensive knowledge and the dedication of an artisan. For him, a glass of wine goes beyond the sensory pleasure, and turns into a bridge of communication between the art of creating a mythical concoction and its final consumers.

Winemaking process: Hand-picked premium Maipo Valley Carmenere giving the French oak treatment.

Tasting notes: You will be seduced by the velvet smooth red cherry fruit, dark chocolate and a hint of tobacco and then quietly stunned by the powerful Shiraz like punch on the finish.
