Santa Alicia Gran Reserva Chardonnay
Country/Region of Origin: Chile

Region: Chile, Maipo

Grape variety: Chardonnay

Background: Santa Alicia have been producing wines in the heart of Maipo Valley since 1954. With grapes from three select communes, a state of the art winery, and judicious use of the finest American and French oak barrels, we believe the wines represent the highest price/quality ratio in Chile. In 2007, they were named Chilean Wine Producer of the Year for "best overall results from a Chilean winery" in the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition in London. Santa Alicia possesses a very talented team of winemakers. Leading the team, is David González, with more than 30 years of experience. David contributes, together with his philosophy of perfection, extensive knowledge and the dedication of an artisan. For him, a glass of wine goes beyond the sensory pleasure, and turns into a bridge of communication between the art of creating a mythical concoction and its final consumers.

Tasting notes: Golden yellow colour with greenish hues. The complex aromas exhibit great intensity and notes of tropical and citrus fruit, nicely balanced with notes of toasted oak, hazelnuts, cinnamon and vanilla. A delicate and elegant wine in the mouth, with a fine balance between the fruit and the wood, nice acidity and persistent finish.

Santa Alicia's flagship white, the Gran Reserva Chardonnay comes from premium grape selection, hand-picked and fermented in French oak barrels before spending six months in barrel and a further six months in bottle. The result is a stunningly complex and immaculately poised wine for the price. On the nose, intense and complex, with a touch of tropical notes like papaya or mango, and hints of cloves, butterscotch and dry herbs. The wine is dense and minerally, with soft, ripe tropical fruit notes, delicate spice and a creamy aftertaste.

Food pairing: Great accompaniment to many foods, going particularly well with sea food, creamy sauces, pastas, white meats or cheese.
