Ben Marco Malbec
BenMarco Malbec 2015/17 [75cl] Argentina

Vista Flores, is an extraordinary Terroir. Its sandy loam and rocky soils guarantees good permeability, limits plant growth and assures perfect ripeness. BenMarco Malbec is testament to Uco Valley where it hails from, proffering a bouquet of fresh black fruit, floral notes of violets, with bright acidity, firm tannins and great length.

This rich full bodied wine would be a great accompaniment to lots of red meats, such as rib-eye steak, spiced or grilled pork, medium-strong cheeses and meat-based pasta sauces.

The fruit is 100% Uco Valley, Vista Flores to be precise, and the wine is made in a big, brassy style with bags of juicy dark fruit; firm, well balanced tannins and fantastic length. In recent times the BenMarco project has been overseen by the amazing talent that is Edy del Popolo, now General Manager at Susana Balbo Wines and a very famous oenologist / winemaker in his own right. It's great to see that BenMarco is in such good hands.

"The style and blend of wine have changed in 2013 (it used to contain 5% Bonarda), as has the source (a single vineyard in Vista Flores). The oak has been toned down to good effect, too. It's very much a cool vintage wine with refined tannins and subtle flavours."

91 / 100 Tim Atkin, Argentina, 2015 Special Report (2013 vintage) "This is an ambitious wine... Sourced from Vista Flores and Chacayes, it's all about rich, bramble and blackberry fruit, firm age-worthy and powerful tannins... another compact red that's aimed at the medium to long term."

92 / 100 Luis Gutierrez, August 2015 (2013 vintage) "Plenty of ripe dark fruits with hints of earthy and funky undertones. Some might call it barnyard, but I like the decadence. Full body, soft tannins and a delicious finish."
