Background: Chateau Phelan Segur is located in the eastern part of Saint-Estephe in Bordeaux. The chateau lies on gravelly alluvial soils that were deposited 650,000 years ago. Xavier Gardinier and his three sons now look after the 70-hectare estate. It is planted with 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot which have an average age of 35 years.
Winemaking process: During the harvest, the grapes are hand-picked and screened then aged in half new barrels for between 14 and 18 months.
Tasting notes: It shows attractive red fruits with good balance, ripe tannins and attractive freshness. Accessible and flavoursome.
