Region: Spain, Rioja
Grape variety: Garnacha Tinta
Geology and soil: Flor de Muga comes from a dozen carefully chosen plots in the areas of Alto Najerilla and the upper parts of the Oja Valley. Both have a semi-continental climate and an age of between 70 and 90 years. Goblet vineyards, with low yields and mostly on slopes. Both the characteristics of the clay-calcareous and clay-ferrous soil, the location and climate make it ideal for maintaining the fresh profile necessary for rosé wines of great complexity.
Winemaking process: Grapes harvested manually, at their optimum moment of ripeness, transported to the winery in small boxes and with refrigerated transport, to keep all the aromatic potential intact. After A short maceration, where it is kept in contact with the skins, 50% of the first must that comes out of the press by simple gravity (free-run must) is selected. It is then fermented at a low temperature in small oak vats, plot by plot. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is preserved on the fine lees for a minimum of 4 months, performing periodic bâtonage (putting the fine lees in suspension) to protect the wine naturally by maintaining the aromas and providing volume in the mouth. At the end of this process, a tasting is carried out, plot by plot, to define the final assembly.
Tasting notes: Bright pale pink colour. On the nose it stands out for its great complexity and intensity where aromas of red fruit, stone (peach, apricot), white flower and citrus appear. All of them are characteristic of the Garnacha Tinta variety. You can also appreciate a subtle spicy note (vanilla, cinnamon) from the elaboration and aging in small wooden vats. On the palate it is very elegant and balanced. It has a marked acidity that gives it length and liveliness. Once again, the fruity notes appear in the mouth, especially the apricot. The finish is very long, fresh, with a very soft tannin that gives it structure, making it a very gastronomic wine.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate - Luis Gutiérrez (14/07/2022) - 93+ Parker Points: Vintage 2021: “I tasted the very recently bottled 2021 Flor de Muga Rosado, from a cooler year that resulted in a wine with 13.8% alcohol and notable freshness and acidity. The wine fermented in oak vats where it matured for four months with the fine lees that were stirred. It was a cool and rainy vintage with some challenges with oidium and mildew but very good for fresh wines. This is very pale and subtle but with good ripeness in the late-ripening zone where these grapes come from. It's fresh and light to medium-bodied, with clean aromas and flavours. It's elegant and subtle, terribly harmonious with complexity and depth. Possibly the finest vintage to date. Delicious! 35,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022.”
