Region: Australia, Barossa Valley
Grape variety: Shiraz
Background: Langmeil’s history dates back to 1842 and the winery now draws on Barossa’s cultural beginnings and combines it with world-class winemaking. Its flagship, Freedom Shiraz, comes from what is believed to be the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, dating back to 1843. Old Barossan vines are a trademark of the winery, as are Chief Winemaker, Paul Lindner’s minimal intervention techniques.
Tasting notes: Intense, with sharply focused red plum, raspberry and roasted red pepper flavours that race over refined tannins and persist into the long, vivid finish. Very full bodied and powerful in the mouth, the rich is offset by very crisp acidity and a medium to firm level of grainy tannins.
