Region: Barossa Valley, Australia
Grape Variety: Shiraz & Grenache
Background: A family-owned boutique winery producing premium Barossa Valley wines. Ben Glaetzer makes unique, elegant wines which are treated as classics. Ben has previously won the Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year and in 2005, he was inducted as the youngest ever member of the Barons of the Barossa, a special Wine Fraternity of industry personalities. Wallace is an ancestral name of Colin's wife, Judith, whose family hail from the old market town of Cupar in Fife, Scotland. Judith's Celtic ancestry is reflected in the three elements of the Wallace symbol - the Celtic cross, thistle and the Celtic knot pattern.
Tasting Notes: Bright red purple in colour. Grenache once again provides an intense strawberry lift with touches of cherry, minerals and spice. The Shiraz component provides structure to the wine and tightens the confectionary notes of the Grenache. Overall a pure, vibrant blend displaying freshness and animation.
Food Pairing: Ideally matches with roasted lamb, beef dishes, hearty stews and Mediterranean cuisine with rich tomato or herb flavours.
