Yields were up on the monstrously low 2019/2020 seasons, a relief for producers. The oak stands proudly atop this wine, and the fruit is a little reductive upon opening; however, the cool flow of flavour across the tongue is sensational. This is glossy, complete and saturated in red and purple fruits. The 2021 is sitting so pert and frisky at this stage – I’m pretty sure, having just looked at the 2020 (and loved it), that this needs a little time to come together. Drink Date 2024 – 2034”

On the nose, there are layers of sweet vanilla oak, raspberries at the height of the season, fresh liquorice root, star anise, fresh cut fennel and cracked black peppercorns. In the mouth, the wine is silky, full-bodied and unfurling – the quality of the fruit sourcing shines through as the flavours linger on the finish. There’s a brightness and energy here that I have found in many of the 2020 reds from Barossa (which is interesting, given the continuation of low yields and drought conditions, suggesting perhaps clever, adaptive viticulture at the fore). There’s a friskiness that suggests a decant would be highly advisable. This is a ripper of a wine.”

Bottled in October 2020 and scheduled to be released in October 2021, it features lovely lift and delicate herbal nuances on the nose, plus hints of red and black currants and blackberries. Full-bodied and supple, it’s also crisp, long and velvety on the finish, picking up delicious nuances of vanilla, dark chocolate and bright, fresh fruit. “

Aged almost exclusively in second, third and fourth use oak (mostly French), it features slight herbal overtones to the black cherry and black olive notes. It’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, supple, generous and reasonably concentrated, folding in hints of peppery spice and mocha shadings on the velvety, mouthwatering finish.”

Background: In 1842 a 32-year-old Blacksmith, Christian Auricht, arrived from Prussia with his wife and four children. He settled in the new village of Langmeil and established a forge in what was to become a thriving trading post. His original smithy remains to this day and is a feature of the winery’s heritage setting.
Tasting notes: Medium to deep crimson with purple hues. A rich and lifted nose of blueberry, blackcurrant and black olive, with a hint of cedar, liquorice and sweet spices adding to the complexity. Bright and rich berry fruits coat the palate and combine with brambly spice, hints of black olive and liquorice. Full-bodied with velvety, fine-grained tannins adding to the structure which flows through the long, fruity and spicy finish.

Background: Langmeil is home to The Freedom Shiraz, believed to be planted in 1843 by vigneron Christian Auricht. Escaping war and persecution in Prussia, Auricht travelled to his new homeland, finding freedom in the Barossa Valley. The original plantings still survive and are some of the oldest and rarest vines in the world.
Aging: 50% new and 50% seasoned French oak hogsheads and barriques. Twenty five months spent in oak.
Tasting notes: Deep crimson. An intense aroma of ripe Satsuma plum, mocha, vanilla and savoury notes combine with hints of cedar and sweet spices. Rich, sweet fruit is balanced wonderfully with briary and sweet spices and lovely, silky tannins. A full-bodied, textural wine, showing great complexity with hints of cedar and allspice flowing through to the lengthy, brambly fruit finish.

Winemaking process: Following a two week fermentation, the wine was clarified and bottled before being cellared for 5 years in the Peter Lehmann winery prior to release. Fruit was picked early and fermented cold in stainless steel to retain fruit delicacy.
Tasting notes: This aged Semillon has developed an attractive pale straw colour with a green hue, displaying hints of lemon curd, zest and green melon. The finish is crisp with a mouth-watering acidity derived from the cool conditions of this vintage.

Amon-Ra Shiraz is an iconic wine that epitomises Ben Glaetzer’s passion to create wines that are full flavoured, multi layered and intense but still elegant, stylish and finely balanced. In Egyptian mythology, Amon Ra is considered to be the king of all gods. The temple of Amon Ra was believed to be the first temple to ever plant a monoculture vineyard to produce wine for the citizens of the temple. The eye on front of the label is the all seeing eye of Horus or wedjat (“whole one”) – a powerful Egyptian symbol of protection. It is represented as a figure with six parts, corresponding to what Egyptians regarded as the six senses; touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell and thought. Ben Glaetzer created Amon Ra Shiraz to appeal to all these six senses.

Its flagship, Freedom Shiraz, comes from what is believed to be the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, dating back to 1843. Old Barossan vines are a trademark of the winery, as are Chief Winemaker, Paul Lindner’s minimal intervention techniques.
Tasting notes: An intense aroma of ripe Satsuma plum, mocha, vanilla and savoury notes combine with hints of cedar and sweet spices. Rich, sweet fruit is balanced wonderfully with briary and sweet spices and lovely, silky tannins. A full-bodied, textural wine, showing great complexity with hints of cedar and allspice flowing through to the lengthy, brambly fruit finish.

Tasting notes: The Eye of Rã Shiraz offers a bouquet of radiant intensity with masses of wild herbs, spiced plum and a cornucopia of blackberry and cedar scents. Showing astounding depth and volume at all levels, the dark and brooding nature of the wine is only enhanced with time in the glass. The palate is rich and generous yet elegantly structured. Background: In Egyptian mythology, Amon-Ra is considered to be the king of all gods. The temple of Amon-Ra was believed to be the first temple to ever plant a monoculture vineyard to produce wine for the citizens of the temple. The eye on front of the label is the all-seeing eye of Horus or wedjat ("whole one") - a powerful Egyptian symbol of protection. It is represented as a figure with six parts, corresponding to what Egyptians regarded as the six senses; touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell and thought. Ben created Amon-Ra Shiraz to appeal to all these six senses.
Tasting notes: Handsome, powerful Shiraz with an inky purple hue and intense aromas of cassis, blackberries and plum seasoned with black pepper. The first sip reveals a robust full body, firm tannins and rigid structure that will respond well to additional cellaring. Hold for another decade or so, or enjoy now alongside hearty beef stews, barbecued ribs or rich venison dishes.
